Engaging Bloggers

Social Media and Blogger Outreach are important elements in our Timeraiser promotions campaign. The blogging community is often tight-knit, independent and honest. In our efforts to spread Timeraiser event information (and the message it promotes) to as many people as possible, we want to engage with bloggers as members of the community (and potential Timeraiser participants) and to help us promote the event to their network of colleagues, friends and family.

Our approach with bloggers is intended to help develop a meaningful relationship with the online community in the cities where our Timeraiser event is held. Bloggers are trusted information sources who can inspire their readers to get involved in causes that are important to them. Some bloggers may have opportunity to attend as media representatives and cover the event as an observer, and others may choose to participant and pledge volunteer hours. All bloggers (and readers) are encouraged to attend the Timeraiser.

Best Practices from Previous Blogger Outreach Campaigns
  • Press Releases should be sent out early, up to a month in advance. Many event listing sites require a month's notice to publish a listing.
  • Sharing of content between bloggers and our online tools is encouraged. The relationship built with bloggers should be substantial and long-term, so discussing their blog posts, sharing links and chatting via Twitter is acceptable.
  • Tickets can be offered to bloggers to be given away on their site. Use discretion when offering tickets. Tickets may be provided by our sponsors, and we will include this in our contact.
  • Due to the high volume of contact emails bloggers receive, the response rate on initial Timeraiser emails may be low. As relationships develop and continued support of the Timeraiser grows, it is our hope that response rate will increase.
Sample Twitter Approach:
Hi (Name!) I work with Timeraiser, an event that raises time instead of money. Can I send you more info by email? (Timeraiser URL possibly included)

Sample Email Approach:

Hello (blogger name)!

We run a very successful program called the Timeraiser. The Timeraiser helps busy socially & locally minded people connect with causes that are important to them. It also helps community oriented businesses grow their corporate social responsibility.

Timeraiser is part volunteer fair, part silent art auction and part night on the town. Throughout the evening meet with different agencies and match your skills to their needs. Once you have made your matches, you are then eligible to bid on artwork. The big twist is rather than bidding money, you bid volunteer hours. If you have a winning bid, you have 12 months to complete your pledge before bringing the artwork home as a reminder of your goodwill.

To view a short video about how the Timeraiser works, check out this You Tube video. Registration and information is here. The 1st Edmonton Timeraiser is Saturday October 17th TransAlta Arts Barns. If you would be interested, I would be happy to send you additional information about the event and provide you with two tickets to give away to your readers.

Sincerely,
